Project Description

This project took home our second place certificate for applying the regional stormwater BMP to an ultra-urban setting by converting a bus parking area into an urban park. The project retains runoff from both the park and the surrounding area by using bioretention areas, tree pits, and most impressively, a rainwater harvesting system that supplies water for irrigation, a fountain, toilet flushing, and the park’s ice rink.

Best Ultra-Urban Project

This category recognizes the best application of green infrastructure (GI) practices that are built in highly urban areas to reduce flooding and pollutant delivery (more than 75% site impervious cover). Some examples include: green streets, walls, roofs or parking lots, rainwater harvesting systems, urban forestry practices, and permeable hardscapes.
