Virginia Conservation Assistance Program – Elisa Meara Residence

Virginia Conservation Assistance Program – Elisa Meara Residence

Project Team
Ms. Elisa Meara (Homeowner) Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District
Project Description

The Meara residence project involved the installation of conservation landscaping, a dry well/infiltration pit and a rain garden. The series of practices capture and treat 100% of the runoff from the property and are now used as a demonstration site. The homeowner has offered tours of her yard to the community, served as meeting site for the Plant NOVA Natives organization, and has served as a host site in NVSWCD’s 2018 Sustainable Garden Tour.

Best Residential Project

This category recognizes exceptional stormwater practices installed on a residential property. Example projects include: rain gardens, rainwater harvesting, vegetated roofs, conservation landscaping, tree planting, downspout disconnection or soil amendments. Special consideration is given to projects subsidized under local government incentive programs. Total investment in residential practices should be generally limited to less than $5,000. They can be installed by homeowners, contractors or watershed groups (if possible, please identify the designer/installer in your application).
