Green Infrastructure Opportunities that Arise During Municipal Operations

Green Infrastructure Opportunities that Arise During Municipal Operations

As we hopefully all know, one of the best ways to get green infrastructure (GI) or low impact development (LID) practices into the ground is to piggyback them onto other capital improvement practices. In fact some of the most successful communities we have come across are those who can promote cross-departmental coordination to get ‘everyone thinking stormwater’. However as we often find, communities are usually too overwhelmed, too busy to make the time to coordinate, they are just busy trying to stay above water.

U.S. EPA has produced a new document which provides approaches that small to midsize communities can use to incorporate green infrastructure components into work they are doing in public spaces. The document also presents examples and case studies of how integrating green infrastructure methods can enhance retrofits and maintenance projects and provide other multiple community benefits.

Enjoy!
