U.S. EPA has released its evaluations of the Bay jurisdictions’ 2012-2013 milestone progress and 2014-2015 milestone commitments as part of the Bay TMDL.
There are two separate assessments; The 2012-2013 milestones assesses the progress each Bay jurisdiction has made toward meeting the Bay TMDL while the 2014-2015 ‘milestone commitments review’ evaluates what the jurisdictions say they will do over the next two years to meet their Bay TMDL load allocations.
From the press release: “Two-year milestones are short-term objectives under the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (Bay TMDL) accountability framework used to assess progress toward restoration goals while allowing jurisdictions to flexibly adapt their Watershed Implementation Plans (WIPs) to meet those goals.” Read the entire press release here.
This is where the Urban BMP Review Panels come in! CSN along with the Center for Watershed Protection facilitates the review of different ‘urban BMPs’ for the purpose of determining how much nutrient and sediment reductions the practice should receive and and what the qualifying conditions are for using that urban BMP. You can read more about the different panels we are currently facilitating as well as read the approved recommendations for the approved urban BMPs here.
