Stormwater ponds are designed to allow for particulate settling while avoiding stratification and anoxia that could lead to phosphorus release from captured sediments. However, recent studies have observed prolonged stratification in shallow stormwater ponds at one meter depth. Vini will talk about recent research in Minnesota on shallow stormwater ponds and will present those findings and a set of pond design and maintenance recommendations to prevent stratification and phosphorus release.
